Vinnie Makar (nee Peters) passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the age of 85. Vinnie is survived by John Makar Jr., her loving husband of 58 years; her children Loranne (Paul M.) May, John Bruno (Cindy) Makar, and Janine Makar; her cherished grandchildren Larissa (fiancé Christian Dupree), Kristi, Kayla, Johnathan, and Elizabeth; and her fond sister Lorna (the late Forrest G., Jr.) Dressler. She was the dear daughter of the late Bruno and late Anne Peters. Vinnie was a Chicago native and a graduate of St. George Grammar School (Class of 1951) and Gage Park High School (Class of 1955). She retired from a long career as an executive secretary at age 76. Her places of employment included Santa Fe, Brunswick, D’Lara Photography, and David Architectural Metals Inc. Vinnie enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, attending craft fairs, festivals, and concerts, and sharing her time and passions with her family. She was also an avid dog lover. Family was always Vinnie’s number one priority, and she spent her life taking great care of everyone while shining her magnificent light on all of life’s adventures. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a prayer service at 3:00 pm, at Kosary Funeral Home, 9837 S. Kedzie Avenue, Evergreen Park, Illinois. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her loving memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Midwest Akita Rescue Society, or her granddaughter Larissa’s foundation, #halfthestoryproject.
