Elinor E. Hamang

Elinor Edith Hamang of Evergreen Park, IL peacefully passed away on March 3, 2023 at the age of 97.

Elinor was born on May 21, 1925 in Cleveland, OH, to Carl and Edith (Stancke) Gase.  After Elinor graduated high school, she went on to go to Valparaiso University where she graduated to become a teacher.  

One day while attending college, she went to the Indiana Dunes, where she met her future husband, Lloyd Hamang.  Elinor and Lloyd married each other on August 2, 1947.  They grew their family and had five children: Carla, Susan, Lloyd, Albert & Charles.

Elinor was a schoolteacher for well over 30 years.  She was a passionate teacher and fully enjoyed cultivating and mentoring future generations.

Some of her greatest joy came from her children.  They created many wonderful memories and enjoyed going on family vacations as often as they could.  There was never a dull moment in the house of five children, always kept her on her toes.

Elinor was never scared to take on new opportunities and lived her outstanding life with honesty and integrity.  She had very strong values and was well loved by everyone, mostly due to her positive energy.  Elinor had incredible patience, and always made time to help others.  She would always say it all comes back to us.

She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, colleague and friend. She touched the lives of so many people.  She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.

She is survived by her loving daughter Susan (Michael) Heniff.  Elinor will be forever cherished and remembered her grandchildren: Michael, Angela, James, Lloyd Jr., Bobby, & Robert.  Elinor is ever loved by her many great-grandchildren: Thomas, Erica, Aiden, Cora, Brenna, Kelsey, Elsa, Braden & Emily.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Edith Gase, her loving husband Lloyd, her sons Charles, Albert & Lloyd, and her daughter Carla Nicholson.  

A celebration of life for Elinor will be held on Thursday March 9, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Kosary Funeral Home, 9837 South Kedzie Avenue, Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
